If these People look happy...you should see their feet! Dancing little doggies scooting across a beautiful ballroom floor, some more nimble than others, but each dancer having their day ...learning one-step at a time.
David and Nealy Riley (recently married but dancing together for a long time) have found a groove with their beautiful dance studio located in the historic Margery building in downtown Grand Junction. They have turned what was a dark and dull building into a bright and busy beautiful ballroom. Dancers of all ages and levels have discovered the warm environment of learning to dance ...which for a lot of people, including me...can be like going to the dentist to get a root canal. But on the Friday I showed up to take a few 'Salsa' lessons with my all too eager friend Lara...the first thing we heard coming up the steps to the Studio...wasn't music, it was laughter. I knew I might just be in my element. The hour-long class taught by David was busy with laughter and direction, movement and a lot more laughing. I came away with being able to move my hips just a little; I don't see a Hula-hoop in my Future. While our group, led by David, was stepping and switching partners and straining to stay in that 'groove'...Nealy was leading her group and demonstrating. Gently guiding robotic men and women and molding them into pliable creatures.... slowly.
Watching these two is elegant. Not a word that I use often. They're also warm, approachable and funny and young! Did I say smart? After seeing these two work so well with the people ...and each other, I knew I wanted to know more. How did two, beautiful, talented and genuinely talented people end up in Grand Junction? And do you do more than Dance? They not only paint the floor with smooth moves...Dave is an Artist...Paintings around the studio prove he's not only a master with his feet...but he he's quite handy. Too good to be true? Nope...Just a couple that met in college and love what they do...and they're doing it. Right here in Grand Junction.
