Pattie Meehan loves horses. She has one that she keeps at a little boarding place in Mesa County. But it was her friend's horse that caught her eye the other morning. It was a double take and a "what the?!..." that escaped her lips on the cool fall morning. Beau the horse was in a bit of a pickle. His leg somehow caught high in the fence and his body now lying on the ground. Not a natural position for most animals or humans...including a horse! Carolyn Gilbert owns Beau...and when she came running out to see what had what was going on she had the same reaction. " How in the Hell did that happen?" Horseplay? or just a few high kicks gone a little too far.

(Pattie with an 'upright' Beau...)
Either way it was a shocking start to an average morning for both women. Pattie made the calls...and got the ball rolling to bet Beau 'unstuck' and she stayed with him as both ladies waited for help to arrive. 40 agonizing minutes, to see if the leg was broke...and if Beau would have to be put down. But Pattie said the big horse was calm once she realized something was going on.
It took a group effort, and Beau? Gonna be just fine. But how the did the leg get wedged so high?... and the fast action of Beau's human friends probably saved her life.
