Ken Burns founder of E-Waste Recycling of Colorado.

Ken was cruising along on the East Coast. He had a six-figure job, his wife and kids had everything they wanted...life was good. Then it happened and 'it' happened quick. In the Spring of 2011 he lost everything, he moved to Grand Junction on the advice of friends in hopes of finding work. That fell through, he and the family burned through the 401K and the next thing you know? Ken was homeless and a little befuddled at his predicament. How did this happen? Well, whatever had happened...happened and here he was, the father of 4 trying to regroup and also move forward. An idea!? Recycling of electronics...for free! He and his brother would make money on the parts and also provide a service for the community...and oh yeah... feed the family and make a living! Ken didn't like being homeless. He took the assistance but got off it as soon as he could find a place. It only took him two months. He found a house in Montrose and the business? It went from a storage unit, to now a three-thousand square-foot warehouse. The word is getting about the 'Free' Recycling. And business? It's getting so good that Ken and his brother, Jeffery Ferguson are hiring a few folks from the Workforce Center. It wasn't easy, but Ken says "I never ever want my family to homeless again and I'll do whatever it takes to not let that happen..."

After meeting Ken and Jeffery I came away with two things: One, in this day and age anybody can become homeless if they don't pay attention to their world. And Two: Creative Minds can create a niche ...it just takes work, drive and good idea.
