Becky Karisny, Teacher

Being a teacher …a teacher kids remember …is a lot more than the three R’s of reading, writing and arithmetic. I’d say it is ‘Remembering.’ And so would retired School Teacher, Becky Karisny, who for the life of her career has had a nice graduation present for every kid who has passed through her 4th grade class at Shelledy Elementary School. The Western Slope students, 8 years removed from her class have and for the next 2 years will receive a packet containing photographs, notes, and letters that they wrote while sitting in the small wooden desks of the cozy class of one Mrs. Karisny. Hopes and dreams, random thoughts, and ‘sorry’ letters…creative writing exercises and scribblings.  Becky Karisny has taken the meticulous time to collect and file the moments away until their delivery date…8 years later! Above and beyond? Nope…Becky just says she wanted to do a little something to let the kids know she remembered them and wants them to remember themselves.  Moments, Memories and a 25 year career of teaching and remembering each student one Graduation envelope at a time.
