Dave Allgood and Comfrey Jacobs
Getting kicked out of school at just 16 could send a kid in a lot of directions...but not Comfrey Jacobs. Because Comfrey? He just knows who he is...always has. Small in stature ...big smile and covered in 'free spirit'...Comfrey was simply born to be Comfrey. An Activist for the rights of people and the environment ...and just the right things. Sitting with the 19 year-old ...he looks like Bob Dylan, speaks like an Arlo Guthrie ...baritone voice and a smooth delivery. His eyes light up when he talks about his next adventure...hitchhiking to the west coast for his next project to protest. But today is about what happened ...a short time after Comfrey got booted from Palisade High School.
At just 16, he decided to hitchhike to the West Coast and "find" himself a bit...after working with an anti-logging campaign in Oregon...Comfrey decided it was time to head back to see family in Utah...and it was a ride with a guy...that Comfrey will always remember.
Just crossing the Utah border...Comfrey noticed the man grabbing at his chest...he asked him if he was "okay?"... the man nodded...10 minutes later ...chaos would take the place of calm and 16 year-old Comfrey would find himself spun out in the median of a busy interstate...giving CPR to a man he didn't know...
